Hotel lighting design and lighting selection

–The interior lighting part of the hotel

1,Lighting Design

Lighting design is a more flexible and interesting design element. It can become a catalyst for the atmosphere, the focal point and theme of a room, and it can also enhance the hierarchy of existing decorations. Lighting arrangement can be divided into direct and indirect. Direct light generally refers to those direct light, such as chandeliers and spotlights. The light is scattered directly on the designated position, projecting a circle of light and shadow for lighting or highlighting the theme. It is direct and simple. Indirect lighting can play a unique function in atmosphere creation and create different moods. Its light does not directly hit the ground, but is placed behind a wall recess, ceiling, or wall paving. The light is projected onto the wall and then reflected to the ground. The soft light seems to gently wash the entire space. Gentle and romantic.The proper combination of these two lights can create a perfect spatial artistic conception. Some are bright and lively, and some are soft. Only through the contrast can they show the unique personality of the light and exude an extraordinary artistic charm. In the use of home lighting, the bedroom should be warm, the study and kitchen should be bright and practical, the living room should be rich, layered, and artistic, the dining room should be romantic, and the bathroom should be warm and soft. I think this lighting arrangement has reached its highest efficiency.

Modern hotel architecture requires people to provide a comfortable, comfortable and beautiful resting environment, usually with complete service facilities and perfect entertainment venues. Therefore, in the hotel lighting design, in addition to meeting the functional requirements, it should also meet the decoration requirements. For the four-star and above hotels, it must also meet the requirements of the hotel management group. This is also the main feature of the hotel lighting design.

Hotel lighting should strive to create a fascinating atmosphere through different brightness contrasts, and avoid monotonous uniform lighting. Blindly pursuing uniform lighting will cause the illuminated object to have no three-dimensional effect. Lighting is closely related to people’s emotions. Higher illuminance helps people’s activities and enhances the sense of urgency; while lower illuminance tends to produce a sense of relaxation, calm and romance, which helps relax.

2,Hotel lighting design

The hotel is not only a public indoor space for guests, but also a place for business, rest, leisure and entertainment. A hotel without professional lighting design has no special hotel atmosphere, or even good economic benefits. The pleasant and relaxing atmosphere can make the hotel appreciate.

First of all, hotel lighting can be divided into lobby lighting, guest room lighting and restaurant lighting according to the bright area. The lighting design of each area has different discussions. Now we will explain them one by one.

(I)Lobby lighting

The lobby lighting area is mainly divided into three parts: door and front hall lighting, general service desk lighting and guest rest area lighting. Contrasting the brightness of the illuminance, the lighting in the three areas makes the non-intimate-scale space interesting, and the light and dark are undulating, creating a friendly atmosphere as a whole.

According to different high spaces and different models, the lobby lighting will adopt different lighting schemes to enrich the spatial hierarchy. The top of the lighting can be concealed. In order to enrich the space of the modeling level, we usually use large chandeliers to mark the style of the hotel, and use grille downlights as accent lighting.

1) Door and the Front Hall

The entrance of the hotel lobby of a large hotel includes the entrance door and the front desk. This is the transition space for our customers to enter the hotel. It is also a guide for the guests in need to clearly indicate the location of the entrance, and the hotel is illuminated. The lamps and lanterns are also displayed to the outside world, which can play an advantage that it can be an important window to promote the image of the hotel, in addition to creating a comfortable and warm inside the hotel. Give customers a friendly visual environment, and the interior of the hotel also needs a brighter and softer light environment, emphasizing its friendly and comfortable lighting environment.

The lighting of the reception hall should pay attention to the following points:

(1) According to the decoration requirements, there are generally large chandeliers, lanterns and other personalized lamps to show the style of the hotel. The entrance and exit of the hotel lobby are mainly used to satisfy the hotel lighting and hotel corridors, guest rooms, leisure areas, etc. For the lighting needs of the venue, the hotel also needs to consider the transitional indoor light environment in the guest room. The light source at the outdoor door is recommended to use around 4000K sound-floating LED downlight or sound-floating LED light strip;

(2)The reception hall has high illuminance requirements to show the nobility of the guests. At the same time, registration and other reading and writing activities are required in the hall, and the illuminance value is not less than 300Lx. For hotels above four stars, it is recommended to add dimming equipment. There is little difference in the color temperature between the indoor and outdoor light, and the whole hotel reflects the feeling of brightness and light effect, so that people can feel the light when they enter the hotel lobby. It feels more comfortable. At the same time, the color temperature of the hotel is higher, which can also expand the visual sense of space for customers, improve the temperament of the entrance of the hotel guests, and also leave a very deep impression on the guests;

(3)The general lighting uses embedded downlights for the starry arrangement. When entering the back door of the hotel, we can reduce the color temperature to about 2000K. Of course, it can also give the hotel indoor light environment closer, more comfortable, and increase the sense of security. . Leave a good first impression on customers together;

(4) Dark trough lights are often installed around the pillars and walls to form the effect of hollowing the ceiling;

(5) Hotels above three-star level should set up road signs to guide customers where they want to go.

The lighting diagram of the reception hall is as follows:

2) Main service desk lighting design

The general service area is the main area where guests gather. Check-in, checkout, inquiries, currency exchange, etc. are all completed here. The illumination requirements are high. Generally speaking, the high brightness of 500-800lx highlights the importance of the service desk. Guide the sight of the guests. In addition, it can easily complete the fast registration and settlement process. The color temperature, 3000K, is the same as that of the front hall to further enhance the cordial atmosphere. The color rendering index should be above 85.

The general service desk can choose the following lighting methods:

(1) Downlights can be arranged in rows on the ceiling;

(2) Boom-type downlights are installed above the counter;

(3) There are light signs above the counter of each service item, such as registration desks, inquiry desks, currency exchange offices, etc.;

(4) There are desk lamps or light strips installed on the counter in the service counter;

(5) Small concealed slot lights are often installed at the bottom of the outside of the service counter;

(6) Adopt district lighting to visually separate the general service desk area from the lobby.

The general service desk case is as follows:

3) Guest rest area

The brightness of the rest area waiting for guests to rest temporarily should not be too high: illuminance 200lx, color temperature 3000K, color rendering index Ra>85. And it is best to be dimmable, in order to achieve the purpose of energy saving at night.

Hotel rest area lamps often incorporate some unique elements, such as humanistic elements, theme elements, decorative elements and so on.

Lighting applications must consider not only functionality, but also artistry and moderate brightness. The energy-saving downlight with warm yellow light (3000K) and strong color reproduction (color rendering Ra>80) is used as the basic lighting, and the ceiling lamp is used as auxiliary lighting. In order to reflect the rest function and pay attention to the control of glare, it is best to use hidden light sources.

The lighting in the rest area of the star hotel should have a sense of hierarchy, and at the same time pay attention to conform to the surrounding environment, pay attention to the perfect integration of decorative style and lighting; use energy-saving downlights as basic lighting, equipped with warm yellow light (3000K), high color rendering (Ra> 90) light source; ceiling lamp as auxiliary lighting, dark slot lamp as scene lighting, highlighting the level of the top space; floor lamp as decorative lighting, reflecting the taste of the hotel.

(II)  Room lighting

The guest room is one of the basic spaces of the hotel, and the choice of lamps and lighting design directly affects the guest’s experience. Reasonable hotel room lighting selection and lighting design can give guests the most direct favor. The guest room should be like home, making guests feel at home, calm, comfortable and warm. The low illuminance of the guest room lighting can show quietness, rest and even idols. The general illumination is 50-100lx. The key lighting such as bathroom mirror lamp and bedside reading lamp should be sufficient illumination of 300lx. In summary, there are probably six principles as follows.

First , the hotel room lighting should be less ceiling lamps and chandeliers, and a variety of lamps for different purposes should be set according to functional requirements, such as bedside lamps, floor lamps, table lamps, wall lamps, night lamps, etc.

Second, the light source of hotel room lamps is mainly incandescent, which is very close to natural light.

Third, the bedside lighting fixtures should be free of glare and hand shadows when going to bed and reading, and should be able to switch within the reach of one’s hand. Bedside lamps should be dimmed. Stand-by lighting should be provided on the passage of the guest room.

Fourth, guest room lighting should prevent uncomfortable glare and light curtain reflection. The brightness of the lamps installed on the desk should not be greater than 510cd/square meter, nor should it be less than 170cd/square meter.

Fifth, for the lighting of the full-length mirror in the guest room and the vanity mirror in the bathroom, the lamps should be installed outside the solid angle of view of 60 degrees, and the brightness of the lamps should not be greater than 2100cd/m². The control of bathroom lighting should be located outside the bathroom door.

Sixth, the hotel guest room is a place to rest, it is a place to relieve the fatigue of the whole day, so rest is an important position. Therefore, the color temperature of the room lighting should be mainly warm colors, and high brightness and cool colors should be rejected.

Then,Five-star hotel lighting,How to design it?

The application of hotel room lighting will vary depending on the style of the hotel. Today, let’s share some general and simple questions:

Question 1

What lamp?

The commonly used lamps and lanterns in hotel rooms are: small-aperture spotlights, anti-fog downlights, light strips (or brackets), table lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps, etc. (desk lamps, wall lamps, and floor lamps are mostly customized according to the decoration style of the room).

Common layout drawings are as follows:

Question 2

What light source is good?

If the hotel’s party A and management have high requirements for guest room effects and can appropriately relax the later operating costs of electricity charges, halogen tungsten lamps are the best choice, because halogen tungsten lamps have the best color rendering index, and when dimming the guest room When the brightness decreases, the color temperature will change from warm yellow to orange red, which is closer to natural light. (Of course, there are also a small number of lighting manufacturers’ products that can achieve LED dimming, and at the same time, the color temperature changes with it, but the price, you know.)

Picture: No matter what kind of light source you choose, try your best to lean towards the feeling of natural light atmosphere, which will make the guests have a home and relaxed psychological experience

Question 3

If you must use LED lamps,

What to pay attention to?

1. Pay attention to glare;

2. When using COB lamps, it is recommended that the light spot should not be too hard and should be as soft as possible;

3. Pay attention to the angle of the light source, be sure to have good light control ability, and not too much stray light, beard light, lotus spot, etc.;

4. For table lamp LED bulbs, you must choose matching lampshade materials.

Question 4

Why are the two spotlights at the hotel bedside designed there?

The design technique of two spotlights arranged at the bedside of the hotel,

It seems that it has been difficult to find the source for a long time.

Some people also call it “reading light”.

In fact, the customers who actually stay in the hotel,

It is rare to sit on the bedside and read by these two spotlights.

The reason for this design,

It is for two reasons:

1. The overall illuminance of the guest room is low, and the distinction between light and dark is large. The bedside position is the main visual focus of the room, so it needs to be highlighted by lighting.

2. The hotel bedding is mostly white, the pillows are illuminated by two beams of concentrated light, and it is clear at a glance whether they are clean. The clean bedding and the room make the guests more at ease.

Question five

How to avoid the glare of bedside spotlights?

There are two common methods:

1. Adjust the installation position of the spotlight, and use a spotlight with a larger adjustable angle range, installed at the corresponding position outside the bed, and projecting diagonally. In this way, it not only satisfies the brightening effect of the bedding, but also avoids direct glare. (As shown in the picture in question 4)

2. The second method is to simply not use these two spotlights! Many other methods can achieve good room effects,

such as:

With soft bedside chandeliers,

Combined with the reflective light trough hidden in the ceiling,

The overall atmosphere is very soft;

You can also use the bedside spotlights,

Replaced with real small spotlights for reading,

Not only can it illuminate the bedding,

There are also functions for easy reading.

Or desk lamp + indirect lighting at the top of the ceiling,

It is also a common choice.

There is also the classic design technique of the Peninsula Tokyo,

It is also very worth learning.

Question Six

Which details are easily overlooked?

1. It is recommended to install a night light (also called a foot light) in the bathroom or aisle, which can be controlled by a switch, infrared induction or light control, so that guests can get up at night without disturbing sleep.

2. The light strip needs to be straightened to avoid bending and breaking points caused by bending. On the other hand, it is also necessary to avoid insufficient diffusion of light at the installation position of the light strip, and too hard fading.

3. The installation position of the luminaire requires actual experience. In addition to the offset of the bedside spotlight, it is also necessary to pay attention to the distance between the installation of other recessed luminaires and the wall to prevent the spot from being too hard or too concentrated.

Figure: The consequences of the lamp being too close to the wall.

4.Consider some details from the perspective of user experience, such as wardrobe lights, such as the inside of the bathroom, the place to read, and so on. Not only use lighting to highlight the luxury of a five-star hotel, but also provide guests with a comfortable experience.

(III) Corridor aisle

Generally speaking, there are guest rooms on both sides of the hotel corridor, and there is usually no natural light. Therefore, there must be 24-hour lighting. The lighting design of the corridor must not only consider the aesthetic requirements, but also consider the energy-saving factors of lighting products. The author believes that the hotel corridor lamps only need to use energy-saving lamps with good color rendering, and it is enough to keep only the lamps for lighting the door in the middle of the night.

In addition, in order to break the sense of oppression and boring in the corridor, light is usually used to partition the wall to illuminate the objects in the corridor, interrupting the original length and making it more interesting. You can also install the footlights at a height of 20-30 cm from the ground, and play a guiding role in the middle of the night when other lights are turned off.

If the lighting design of the hotel entrance, lobby, and front desk is the facade of a five-star hotel, then the lighting design of the hotel rooms and corridors is the interior of the hotel. If you only make the lobby and the front desk very high-end, and ignore the rationality of the lighting design of the guest room, it will inevitably look a little bit golden!

Lighting design parameters:

Illumination: 75-100lux

Color temperature: 3000-4000k

Color rendering: Ra is greater than or equal to 80

(IV)Lighting design of five-star hotel guest room bathroom

The lighting of the bathroom in the hotel guest rooms should be soft and uniform, and should be combined with ordinary lighting and mirror lighting, and the light should be used to create a refreshing and clean bathroom, while meeting local lighting requirements.

Use anti-fog downlights or ceiling lights to complete basic lighting, energy-saving downlights combined with anti-fog ceiling lights with local lighting, relatively high illumination requirements (300LUX);

A ceiling lamp can be installed directly above the toilet for easy reading, and an anti-fog downlight above the bathtub can be used for basic lighting. The sink can be partially illuminated with downlights or spotlights; the illuminance of the mirror lamp must be above 280 LUX, and the light source is incandescent Lamps or three-primary-color fluorescent lamps are suitable.

Lighting design parameters:

Illumination: 150-200lux

Color temperature: 3000-4300k

Color rendering: Ra is greater than or equal to 80

(V) Restaurant lighting

I have introduced so much before, do you feel hungry? By the way, when we check in to the hotel, if we are hungry, of course we are looking for food. A good hotel must have high-end restaurants, mainly western restaurants, bars, and high-end clubs. Here, customers focus on experience, generally petty bourgeoisie, and the highest environmental requirements. In the selection of light sources, soft and low-key spatial tonality should be adopted, and the overall illuminance level is low. Generally, distinctive decorations are used as the visual center for lighting, but very fine illuminance level and illuminance distribution control are required.

Western Restaurant lighting

bar lighting

 Of course, no matter what kind of lighting in the dining space, the “color” of food cannot be ignored. This requires that the color rendering of the light source illuminating the food is good enough. Generally, accent lighting is used to illuminate the food to increase the appetite of the guests. For catering lighting, reasonable illuminance level and illuminance distribution, color rendering of light source, lighting control, and architectural lighting are all very important.

A good restaurant lighting design can be eye-catching and appetite-enhancing, but at the same time, attention should be paid to avoiding undesirable effects when the light shines on people. The lighting not only has a significant impact on the dining atmosphere of the restaurant, but also has a significant impact on the kitchen. Light experiments have proved that the correct allocation of lights and colors can increase the work energy of employees and effectively improve their work efficiency. However, few bosses have noticed that they will pay attention to whether the restaurant’s planning will attract guests to eat. In some restaurants, in order to create a romantic atmosphere, the restaurant is planned to be relatively sealed, so that natural light does not come in during the day. In this way, artificial lighting is also needed during the day, and it wastes natural resources and is not environmentally friendly.
